I got a letter from my mom yesterday. I love snail mail. In one of the final paragraphs, she wrote this:
"When I was subbing at Einstein last week, a girl raised her hand (righ tin the middle of my fascinating lesson on how to find the area of triangles and trapezoids) and said: 'Excuse me, this is off the subject, but are you Turkey's mother?' When I said yes, several other 7th graders nodded their head and said 'I know Turkey from camp!'"
I know I get a lotta crap from everyone because I usually can't go for more than two minutes without talking about Camp Nan A Bo Sho, but that is because for me, it is one of the greatest places on this earth. I love it there. It has always been my second home. The friends and family I have made there will be with me for the rest of my life. And when I read that in my mom's letter, it was probably one of the greatest warm fuzzies I could've asked for. It was just, absolutely, excellent.
I still am loving it here. I really am. But I've been thinking a lot about home too. I just miss simplistic things like a hot shower or a spinach salad. Or an avocado melt. Mmmmm. I can't even imagine what it will be like to go home though. My life will still be crazy. I will have this whole new thing, this experience, that only I did. As Brighid's South African friend who one took a shot of lighter fluid says, "it's heeeectic!".
The power continues to go out almost every night. Grrrr. Made some progress in Wolof class yesterday. YESSSS! Oh, and all my teachers called me into a class room and I thought I was in trouble, but then they said "we're doing a skit and we know you love to act, so you're going to be in it too". THEY KNOW ME SO WELL here!!!!!
This Saturday we depart for another excursion. My MP3 player has yet to start working, and no music would be a very very bad thing. I guess I'd just have to throw myself a Disney singalong on the bus or something. Any requests?
